A Real Hero: Reflecting on the Texas Floods and Rising Together in Kindness
Lately, it’s felt heavy here in Texas. The recent floods brought complete devastation — homes lost, communities torn apart, and precious lives gone far too soon. And while I watched it unfold, safe and dry in my own home, I couldn’t help but feel a deep ache. I thought to myself, Wow, what a bubble I live in sometimes. The things I often worry about — the tasks, the lists, the minor frustrations — suddenly felt so small in comparison.
My heart broke. And it still breaks.
As I sat with these feelings, I turned to prayer:
“Lord, I pray for the families facing unimaginable loss. Comfort them in ways only You can. Hold them close in their pain. Remind us all that even when we don’t understand, we are still called to trust. Thank You for reminding me of how truly blessed I am. In You, my problems fade, because You are stronger, wiser, greater, and faithful to hear every cry. Amen.”
I don’t personally know the families who lost loved ones, but I mourn with them. The grief stretches far beyond the floodwaters. It touches every home, every town, and every heart that has quietly asked: “What can I do?” Sometimes we don’t have the answers. But we do have each other.
💗 Honor our Heroes
I want to take a moment to recognize the first responders and search and rescue teams who’ve worked tirelessly through this disaster — many of whom I know personally. These brave men and women have put their lives on the line, showing up with courage and compassion in the face of chaos. Heroes. Every single one of them.
💌 A Personal Project to Share
In response to this tragedy, I designed a free printable thank-you card — something you can download, print, and share with a first responder or community hero. It’s a small way to say, “You are seen. You are appreciated.”
Because in today’s fast-paced world, a handwritten note still speaks volumes.
You can grab your free “Honor Our Heroes” printable below and help flood our communities with gratitude and encouragement.
Whether it’s for a firefighter, police officer, EMT, or search & rescue team — your words matter more than you know.
🙏 Let’s Lift Each Other Up
Let’s be the kind of community that prays, gives, and remembers. We may not be able to fix everything, but we can show up with kindness — and that’s no small thing.
Love y'all,
